June Weddings.

First off I would be remiss if I didn't wish felicitations and congratulations to Jen and Alan on their wedding. Sounds like it had all the best things: lovely bride, nice ceremony, joyful couple, and enough alcohol at the reception to make the guests silly.

Of course, I'm reminded of all the weddings I've been in over the years. I don't remember my oldest sisters weddings. There are however, great pictures of munchkin me and next sis in our little matching blue velvet dresses. One of my favorite pictures of all time. The sad thing about that wedding is that my sister has since said that she cried the whole way down the isle, knowing it was a mistake. It was, but she was pregnant and good catholic girls got married when that happened.

In college, I was in next sis' wedding. Memorable mostly because mom got so nervous the week before that she butchered the shrubbery in front of the house. Cut them down to stumps.

There was college bud's wedding to some older hick. Ugly yellow bridesmaid dresses from JC Penney and cookies and juice at the reception. I never did figure that one out.

College roommates wedding was amazing and lovely. Unfortunately she was so stressed out that when they escorted her granmother to her seat during the wrong song she lost it and never recovered. As far as she was concerned the wedding had been ruined. She didn't speak to us for a long time afterward because we drank all the champagne we could find and got tipsy and a bit wild. That wedding featured the amazing lowcut purple bridesmaid dresses. My mom said she took a lot of photos of us at the wedding, but could never show anyone because the dresses were scandalous.

Best college friends wedding was more purple dresses. Handmade to be less expensive - except that the nice lady sewing them ran out of time and some were nicely finished and some were tossed together. We made the best of it. I remember mimosas before going to the church and the amazing sermon (bride's cousin was the priest saying mass). He went on and on about what a lovely day it was. The whole sermon was about the weather. I still laugh when I think of it.

Then best babe's wedding. We drank heavily after cutting the lace pattern pieces for the gown. The bridesmaid dresses were late getting in and we hadn't accounted for the 4th of july holiday. My dress had to be rebuit for my size and I didn't get it back until the morning of the wedding. I recall it being a good party, but mostly I remember the chaos of getting ready for it.

That was the last wedding I was in. I declined one after that because I didn't want to wear a victorian ballgown. That bride to be said "Oh don't worry that you'll be always the bridesmaid and never the bride. Be in the wedding anyway." I responded that I didn't think that reasoning had anything to do with it, I just wasn't about to spend a ton of money on another ugly dress I'd never wear again.

Ah the memories...
