Current Events.

Lots of to do here in the nation's capital and it has nothing to do with Thursday's upcoming festivities. Nope WHFS changed formats and you'd think the world had come to an abrupt end. Apparently they played 'The Long Goodbye' right before noon and when it ended the announcer came on and announced in spanish the new WHFS "el Zol".

Back in the day HFS was the alternative music station. It was free form and quirky and peopled with personalities. Apparently that is how everyone is remembering it. They want to forget the last 10 plus years of the corporate playlist. Sadly the HFS they're mourning died long ago.

I was a listener back in the day particularly toward the end of the golden age. I was a listener in the early corporate years too. Actually HFS was on one of my presets right up until yesterday evening, but I've listened less and less. And so a legend passes.

When I first heard about it I pictured a WKRP moment scratching the needle across the record and firing up something totally new. In a way, particularly with the switch to spanish, it was nearly as dramatic. Like all corporate entities they're going for the growing market. Apparently here that's hispanics, not spoiled suburban hipsters.
