Regime Change.

I met with the new school principal today. Originally I was very impressed with her credentials and with what she said to the staff when she introduced herself. Now, not so much with the impressed.

Meeting was at 11 am. I left work to go to this meeting. She was in her office with her secretary, the vice principal and the reading specialist. I was left cooling my heels for 15 minutes while she finished with them - and they freaking work there.

She had said she wanted to meet with me to see what the PTA does. Seems what she wanted to do was meet with me to tell me what she wants the PTA to do for her. Primarily fundraising to improve the school's technology. Noble cause, but not my job.

I'm also unclear on one part of it. She made a big deal out of closed circuit wiring. She knows the school has it, they just need cameras. I'm wondering why. The grades are all grouped in "pods" of semi-enclosed classrooms. There are only 2 reasons I can think of for using closed circuit in the classrooms - doing video presentations to the whole school (like kid anchored news reports) or for putting camera up for surveilance. I'm not sure which was the intention.

She's also adamant that we need to get a Hispanic presentation booked for "Hispanic Heratige Month" at the start of the school year. I don't think she's actually looked at the schools demographics closely. She came from a Title 1 (poverty level) school in a Hispanic immigrant neighborhood. Our school is middle to upper middle class, majority white. Though she mentioned it, I don't think she's made the connections yet that the new housing being built in our school boundaries are townhouses selling for $450,000. Townhouses.

And people are buying them....
