Absentee Landlord.

** I know the date, I remember what happened, I have nothing to say on the topic, so I'll refrain. **

My work environment has begun to remind me of a slum. The boss is like an absentee landlord. The building has a bunch of vacancies but there's no effort to fill them. Those of us who are here are doing our best to keep living their lives, but things are changing. The environment is degrading around us.

Sure you can get something fixed with persistence and patience but there's no one here for the immediate stuff. The void has left others with the idea that maybe they should check it out and see what they can get out of it. It's not ransacking per se, but little incursions. Take a piece of power here, occupy a power void there. Kind of like squatters moving in on the vacancies. I get requests and guidance, though no actual orders yet, from 4 or 5 different people.

Today I heard that the COO has asked the head tech to keep tabs on his new (our new) boss. So head tech who is an hourly employee who last year at this time did nothing but surf car and titty websites and download mp3's is keeping tabs on a Senior Vice President. We're talking about a good man who has run the communications part of this company for 8 or 10 years (which includes an ATM network) being monitored by a lazy punk.

How disfunctional is that.
