Eerie

I just found out the weirdest thing. One of the authors on my favorites list - Anne Perry is a murderer. There was a weird reference in an Amazon entry for one of her books, so I hit the web to get the facts. Seems that in the early 50's when she was 15 years old, she helped her best friend murder the friend's mother. Violently. They took a brick in a stocking and whacked her in the head with it. When the first blow didn't kill her, they paniced and basically kept pounding until they calmed down and she was dead.

Ick. She did her time, changed her name, moved from New Zealand to England and put the past behind her. Except that someone made a movie about the killing and that made someone interested enough to ask "what ever happened to ..."

One of the interesting things is that the defense tried to plead insanity. It was said that Anne and her friend were having a lesbian relationship. The defense thought that would be enough to show she was insane. It was, after all, the 50's.

All she'll say now is that she was on medication that was too strong and is no longer used on humans. And that she doesn't really remember any of it. Of course, her official web site skips the whole thing and makes it sound like she had a delightful upbringing and her father encouraged her to write and this is the outcome.

Too Weird!
