Should I be worried ... - 2007-06-15

Winter Interrupted.

Actually I don't think it ever really got started. Today it was in the 70s. In January. That my friends is amazing. It is also way too nice to allow one to be lazy. I fought the urge to become one with the sofa and went for a walk.

I went down to the Patuxent Basin Trail but went the opposite way than I've taken before. Last time I took that trail I went all the way to the far end in Savage. This time I went to Lake Elkhorn in Columbia. Total mileage is unknown. It's 2 miles each way to the lake, but nothing says how long the path around the lake is. If I had to guess I'd say a couple miles.

Due to the excessively nice weather there were tons of people on the trail. Walkers, dog walkers, bike riders, runners; people of all sizes, shapes, types and speeds. The most unique would have been the guy on the Segway, if there hadn't been a guy on a motorized skateboard.

I like this trail, fewer hills for one thing and completely paved. I don't think I'd chance it in the bug season, though, without a complete coating of DEET. It's all low lying wetlands.

I really like watching the people. I also like watching the geese sleeping afloat. There was also a little diving duck hunting up his lunch, it was very cool. On the other hand I hate trail hogs. And I think taking a walk while talking on a cellphone is just plain stupid.

Now time to become one with the sofa.
